Fashion Institute of Technology has unveiled its latest exhibition, "American Beauty: Aesthetics and Innovation in Fashion," celebrating the concentrated craft of dressmaking within the domestic industry.
Design scions Halston, Claire McCardell, and Charles James and others anchor the retrospective amongst other unknowns and modern-day innovators, including Jessie Franklin Turner, Elizabeth Hawes, Bonnie Cashin, Charles Kleibacker, Isabel Toledo, Ralph Rucci, Jean Yu, Yeohlee, Maria Cornejo, and Rodarte's Mulleavy sisters.
The 80 garments on display, as you can see from the 25-designer lineup, represent a truly spectacular range of American fashion over the years and still going strong today.
