Julia Roberts to Become the Face of Lancome

Lancome has recruited the A-list actress -- whose megawatt smile has become the stuff of legend -- to become its "global ambassadress," a move that would have seemed impossible 10 years ago.

Thus far, the details on the partnership are not entirely clear -- Lancome apparently didn't give WWD any information on the length of her contract or how much she's going to get paid, though it's likely to be a hefty sum, considering Roberts is said to make $20 million-plus for films -- though more information will be forthcoming in the new year.

Youcef Nabi, the president of Lancome International, told WWD: "Julia Roberts is an emblematic woman of her time ... Her exceptional talent, her radiance and her strong commitments perfectly echo Lancome’s values."

It's true that Roberts is the seemingly un-get-able "get" -- she's rarely seen promoting anything and has become rather reclusive between filming. And she is, after all, Julia Roberts. She's also joining the ranks of several other A-listers like Demi Moore and Kate Winslet in appearing in beauty advertising. All that said, she doesn't exactly seem like the representative of "our time," or necessarily of-the-moment -- though we won't say we wouldn't watch "Pretty Woman" right now if we had the opportunity ...
