Start Doing Your Pull-Ups: Linda Hamilton Coming To “Chuck”

“Chuck” has had its fair share of cool guest starts over its brief run: Brandon Routh, Scott Bakula, Chevy Chase, Morgan Fairchild, a 6” meatball sub from Subway. They’ve all graced the spy thriller/comedy with their outsized presence. And now the show is calling upon Sarah Connor herself, Linda Hamilton, to give it an extra boost of geeky excitement. From Nellie Andreeva at Deadline (Spoiler slert):

The show's creators/executive producers Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak announced at Comic-Con today that sci-fi icon Linda Hamilton of Terminator franchise fame will join the cast of the NBC series in a heavily recurring role in Season 4. She's playing Mary Bartowski, the long-missing mother of Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Ellie (Sarah Lancaster).

If you’re wondering where Hamilton has been all these years, you don’t have to look hard. In fact, she’s been working quite a bit, including spots on “According to Jim”, Canadian crime drama “The Line,” and an uncredited voiceover cameo in “Terminator: Salvation.” For some reason, Hamilton has done few marquee projects outside of the “Terminator” franchise, probably because audiences have a hard time picturing her as anything but the mother of mankind’s future Savior, who is constantly being stalked by bloodthirsty cyborgs sent from the future. Or as that lady who dates Beast.

But this “Chuck” role lets Hamilton exploit her geek cred while playing an entirely new character, one that will prove central to the show’s storyline. I’m still pushing for a gratuitous prison pull-up scene, though. The lady has guns.
