Noomi “Dragon Tattoo” Rapace Joins “Sherlock Holmes 2”

Have we all been gushing about Noomi Rapace enough that we can stop referencing "Dragon Tattoo" in headlines about her?

Rapace's victory lap of Hollywood in the wake of the global success of her work as Lisbeth Salander in three films based on Stieg Larsson's "Millennium Trilogy" has finally borne fruit. Rapace has landed the female lead opposite Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes 2," her first English-language role in amotion picture.

Plot details for the sequel to Guy Ritchie's follow-up to his 2009 hit are being kept under wraps, but Rapace's character is rumored to be a French Gypsy, reported Heat Vision.

What is known is about the film is that Holmes will be facing off with his arch nemesis, Moriarty, and the film will feature an appearance from Holmes' brother, Mycroft. Let's hope Ritchie has enough of a sense of humor to cast Hugh Laurie in the role of Mycroft.

The original "Sherlock" was an entertaining piece of fluff whose ending all but demanded a sequel. We'll happily sit through another one, though we're saddened by the apparent dismissal from the franchise of Rachel McAdams.

Rapace will no doubt be rumored around countless more projects over the coming months as her team continues to shop her around town, and launch her Oscar campaign.
