Hey, Look! It's “Tintin”!

With the release of Stephen Spielberg's "Tintin" still more than a year away, the long, slow drip of sneak previews has begun with the release of the first official images from the film.

Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson bequeathed the honor of first look to Empire magazine, who has Tintin and his trusty dog, Snowy, on their cover, as well as two more pics from the 3D, motion-capture film.

“With live action, you’re going to have actors pretending to be Captain Haddock and Tintin,” Jackson told Empire. “You’d be casting people to look like them. It’s not really going to feel like the Tintin Hergé drew. It’s going to be somewhat different. With CGI we can bring Hergé’s world to life, keep the stylized caricatured faces, keep everything looking like Hergé’s artwork, but make it photo-real.”

The art by "Tintin" creator Hergé is certainly worth recreating as truthfully as possible. And his stores were fantastic adventures, if occasionally tainted by the prevailing racial sentiments of their time.

The cover shot is maddeningly shadowy, with Tintin, (played by Jamie Bell) and Snowy getting hit by a spotlight while on the run. Of course it's not proper a mo-cap production without Andy Serkis, who provides the movements for the hard-drinking, quick-tempered Captian Haddock, who can be seen in the other two pics.

The film also stars the likes of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Daniel Craig, Cary Elwes and Tobey Jones.

"The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn" comes out Dec. 28, 2011.
