Here's the Trailer for the Area 51 Refugee Comedy “Paul”

We've known for a while now that "Paul" was coming, and we've known what it was about. But now that there's a trailer here, we're having a hard time wrapping our heads around it.

The film stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as a couple of comic book dorks traveling the U.S. in a Winnebago who come across an alien named Paul who begs them for help. Those two, who also co-wrote the film, have been leveraging the geek-chic thing to great effect as long as anybody, going back the their days on the brilliant BBC sitcom "Spaced."

What's got us scratching our heads is Greg Mottola behind the camera. After making his directorial debut with the hilarious and thoughtful "Daytrippers" (which features an incredible turn by Liev Schreiber), he kinda disappeared for a decade, occasionally directing TV. Then he came out of nowhere with instant-classic "Superbad" and followed that up with "Adventureland." So Mottola went adult drama>>>coming-of-age teen cmedy>>>slightly more serious coming-of-age teen comedy>>>sci-fi geek out. How he got involved in "Paul" is mystery to us.

The cast for "Paul" is loaded, with Seth Rogen as he voice of Paul, Jason Bateman as the Man in Black looking for him, Jane Lynch, Blythe Danner, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Jeffrey Tambor and David Koechner.

The scene where they first encounter Paul on a dark road in the middle of the New Mexico night reminded more than a little of the teaser for "Super 8" that came out this summer, thought we're pretty sure the similarity is just coincidence.

"Paul" arrives on Earth March 18, 2011.
