David O. Russell Scripts Portman's “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”

Natalie Portman's got all kinds of things going on, not the least of which is "Thor." But while at Comic-Con to pimp her upcoming superhero epic, she found time to talk about here adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies."

"We just got a new script from David O. Russell, and we're hoping to make it this year," Portman told The Playlist.

It's been thought/believed for a while now that Russell was involved in this project, one never knows for certain, so it's good to hear Portman discuss firsthand.

A synopsis of the novel suggests that the book delivers precisely what the title promises:

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Complete with 20 illustrations in the style of C. E. Brock (the original illustrator of Pride and Prejudice) this insanely funny expanded edition will introduce Jane Austen's classic novel to new legions of fans.

It seems like an odd film for Russell, but it's hard to say what exactly a typical Russell film looks like, plot-wise. He's done the first Iraq War, incest, road-tripping and an existential department store crisis.

Russell's next film, "The Fighter," starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale," comes out Dec. 10. Portman, meanwhile, has three films ready to drop, "Hesher," "Black Swan" and "Your Highness."
