Video: Dirty Projector's “Gun Has No Trigger”

Brooklyn polymaths The Dirty Projectors have released the video for "Gun Has No Trigger," the first single from their upcoming album Swing Lo Magellan. You can check it out below.

The video was directed by Dirty bandleader David Longstreth, who adroitly paces the imagery changes with the song's click-clack beat and escalating harmonies. (And my, do the backup singers on this song look intense when they harmonize.)

Writing on the group's website, Longstreth expounded on the song's underlying ideas about dissent and the video's use of current corporate iconography.

"Gun Has No Trigger is about the possibility for true dissent, and how I can't figure out what that could be. What is a 2012 Exodus from the Society of the Spectacle (to mix language Situationist and Rastafari)? " he writes. "So we made a video from the iconography of the default profile image used by Facebook and Gmail, and also the look of the classic Apple iPod commercials.  The colors in the background are the ones I think of when I hear the harmonies of Amber and Haley (via experimental synesthesia)."

Swing Lo Magellan is out on July 10 via Domino, the same day as their show at Prospect Park with Wye Oak, Purity Ring and POP ETC., tickets for which are available here.
