Say It Ain's So; LCD Soundsystem Announce Farewell Show

Last week’s crushing blow came with the news that Jack and Meg White have decided it was time to put an end to The White Stripes. While that announcement took the wind out of me, today’s news that LCD Soundsystem is calling it quits came as a complete knockout punch.

Yes, you read that correctly. After a wildly successful year thanks to the release of LCD Soundsystem’s third album This Is Happening (DFA) and numerous tour dates including top billing at festivals all over the world, the band has announced what is sure to be an epic evening titled LCD Soundsystem: The Long Goodbye. The three hour show will take place at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday, April 2 and will be opened by dance-punk pioneers Liquid Liquid. Tickets for the event will go on sale via Ticketmaster on Friday, February 11 at 11:00am.

The extensive set will be a chance for James Murphy, Nancy Whang, Pat Mahoney and the rest of their cohorts to say farewell in style. The band plans to touch on every portion of their catalog and promises deep cuts (pretty please play “Beat Connection”) along with hits from their three untouchable albums and even some never-before-played songs. They are also planning to enhance their sound with a choir, string and horn sections and a number of special guest collaborators.

LCD Soundsystem would also like us to know that they will be observing a strict dress code of all black and white clothing for The Long Goodbye and respectfully request that all in attendance do the same.

I know the show is still a couple of months away, but I’m already calling “Show of the Year” for this one. This is not to be missed.
