Prince Announces NY and NJ Tour Dates

Now this is a cause for regional pride: The Purple One himself, Prince, has announced the first five dates of his “Welcome 2 America” tour, and they’re all in our backyard. Yesterday, WBLS 107.5 announced that he’ll stop by the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on December 14th, 15th, and 17th and then Madison Square Garden on December 18th and 29th.

As the unpronounceable sex symbol explained in a press conference a the Apollo Theater earlier this month, the “Welcome 2 America” residency will be a carnival-style collaboration of R&B and funk artists in which he will serve as the master of ceremonies. Slated performers include Janelle Monae, Mint Condition, and Cassandra Wilson.

Tickets for these first dates go on sale Saturday, October 30th at 10am on (of course) Ticketmaster. Of course, despite the internet being “completely over,” as he decreed to the Daily Mirror earlier this year, practice constant vigilance if you hope to snare those tickets – or sign up for the WBLS ticket giveaway.

As the unveiling of these East Coast dates comes after widespread, unsubstantiated, and hysterically received rumors that Prince has been tapped to headline next year’s Glastonbury Festival, in the U.K., we wonder: exactly what kind of media blitz is the Lovesexy lothario planning? Maybe he’s gonna make it…rain.
