MpFree Wednesday: Rubblebucket, “Silly Fathers” (@ LPR Tonight)

Who: Once you get past the sheer goofy joy of saying their name over and over really fast, Brooklyn outfit Rubblebucket, you realize, is just as much fun to listen to. Led by the bandleader/trumpet blower Alex Toth and frontwoman/sax player Kalmia Traver, this eight-piece’s sound dabbles in psychedelic rock, pop, reggae and Afro-Cuban jazz, but it somehow all works. (And whistle solos pretty much own us. See the video below. We’re not made of wood, people.) On the heels of an EP that drew raves from the disparate likes of Paste and the WSJ in 2010, Rubblebucket’s album Omega La La comes out June 7 on Sin Duda Records. Officially, that is. They're also giving away the whole thing on their website. We suggest you go thank them in person at (Le) Poisson Rouge tonight, and hear the band bring their wacked-out sound to life live.
