Who:
We’ve frothed about her before, and now Brit import Gabby Young—who has drawn descriptors like “a slightly brighter Nina Simone” and “a busking Kate Bush”—has made her official bow in the U.S. with the release of her debut disc  We’re All In This Together, already a bestseller in the UK.

Young’s sound, with her band Other Animals, is like the soundtrack to some sort of jazzy gypsy circus, while her distinctive voice places her firmly alongside Florence and the Machine in our summer playlist.

It’s a voice, by the way, that made Young the youngest-ever recruit to Britain’s National Youth Opera at the age of 12. Stay tuned for specifics on US tour dates happening later this summer; meantime, grab the album’s title track—a lo-fi gem whose melancholic banjo reminds us of Mumford and Sons—and soak up her acoustic take on Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” in the video below. (We hear a little Jeff Buckley in there.)
