Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark are touring on the strength of their critically-lauded 2010 album History of Modern, fresh off playing sold-out houses in Europe. Founded in late-1970s Liverpool by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, and born of the same petrie dish that would birth bands like Echo & The Bunnymen and Frankie Goes To Hollywood, OMD have always been known for wowing live, with crazy visuals and spectacular staging that truly turn their narrative-driven songs into something close to theater.
So picking Oh Land as an opener is something of a perfect fit: The Danish electropop artist (real name Nanna Oland Fabricius) is known for all sorts of quirky visual and aural antics in her live shows. Case in point, her “contraption”: a handmade music box which she plays, above which float balloons onto which video is projected. Sounds complicated, but it’s magical to see live.
