La Santa Cecila at Joe's Pub

Saint Cecilia was the patron saint of musicians who sang to God as she is lay dying, and these days, also happens to be the 6-member eclectic band, fittingly, from the City of Angels.

The band, which formed in 2007, is made up of guitarist Gloria Estrada, accordionist Jose Carlos, bassist Alex Bendana, percussionist Miguel Ramirez, drummer Hugo Vargas and lead vocalist Marisoul.

They've shared the stage with the likes of Ozomatli, Julieta Venegas, Girl In A Coma and Calexico, and just as diverse as the genres of their counterparts is the rhythms that Santa Cecilia encompass including infusing cumbia, bossa nova, rumba, bolero, tango, jazz, and rock to their Spanish and English tunes.

In just four years, the beloved L.A. band has released three albums that burst with their worldly sounds one of which garnered them a nomination  for a Latin Grammy in the Best Tropical Song category for their track “La Negra” off their 2010 EP Noche Y Citas.

The West Coasters head east with a stint at Joe's Pub on Sunday so don't be surprised if it starts feeling like summer again.

Opening up is New York-based band Pistolera.
