When Man vs. Machine partners Jordan White and Charlie Browne heard about the earthquake in Haiti, it was a no-brainer to change up the originally intended charity event that went down at the No Malice Palace -- a trendy yet intimate East Village haunt.
"We're all about indie, that's why we chose this place," said Jordan White, the designer behind Man vs. Machine. "It's been around for over 10 years. No glitz and glamour, just pure culture."
You could find these fashion-meets-music soon-to-be moguls at No Malice every Wednesday for the past year, but in the wake of the natural disaster, last night's partygoers were encouraged to bring clothing to help the desperate earthquake survivors. And as Browne DJ'd for the generous crowd, more and more clothing piled at the door.
"Believe it or not, we were already planning on doing a charity event tonight for a foundation that donates clothing to children in foster care," White said, "but then the earthquake happened, and we said let's just switch it and donate everything from tonight to the people in Haiti."
But, what about the foster kids?
"We'll be having another event for Fashion Week including a clothing drive as well, at which time the proceeds will be going to the foster care organization," White said.
In addition to his THX 1138-inspired line, Jordan White has had ties with Converse, Polo Ralph Lauren and Victoria Secret. His most recent work includes the first women's line for Cavi -- urban wear that has been spotted on the likes of T.I., John Legend, Reggie Bush and Omarion. The ladies apparel launch will take place in just two short weeks at Macy's.
