DJ Lady Starlight: Gaga Asked Me to Design Her Duds

Lady Starlight still has a close relationship with pal and former performing partner Lady Gaga and even gives the pop star fashion advice on occasion, she said last night.

While spinning classic rock and metal at Bar 44 at the Royalton Hotel Tuesday night, Lady Starlight said she keeps in contact with her former "Lady Gaga and the Starlight Revue" partner and was even asked to create an outfit for Gaga for her Monster Ball tour.

“I believe I'm a prophet of fashion,” Starlight said. “I know what people are going to wear two or three years before they do.”

The pair became fast friends when they met three years ago at the St. Jerome's bar on the Lower East Side.

“I was go-go dancing, and she came up to me and stuffed a dollar in my panties,” Starlight said. “That's back when a dollar was actually worth something.”

They joined forces and created a band called Lady Gaga and the Starlight Revue, playing at various clubs throughout the city.

“It was so much fun,” she said. “It was always her music, but I was in charge of the stage show, the presentation.”

Now, Lady Starlight is continuing work on her own career and has taken up residency at Bar 44 every Tuesday. And in an era when most DJs have gone digital, she has ditched the iPod and laptop for old-fashioned vinyl records and turntables.

"Digital just doesn't sound the same,” she said. “I've got tons of records at home. I have a whole room full of them.”
