As a new season of “Dancing With the Stars” kicks off, New Yorkers eager to learn the moves themselves can take a dance fitness class called LaBlast.
LaBlast incorporates all the dances that you see on "Dancing With the Stars," said LaBlast creator and ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” dancer and choreographer, Louis Van Amstel.
Participants twist and move to genres including salsa, disco, jive, cha cha and merengue.
Crunch-NY began offering LaBlast classes last week.
“People love the connection with 'Dancing With the Stars,' recognizing the dances they see on the shows. And then you see the dance in the class and you experience them in class,” said Crunch LaBlast instructor Carol Johnson.
“When Carol breaks down the steps, I can really recognize what the dancers are doing,” said student Marion Cantone, 67, who tried LaBlast for the first time last week.

The class is open to all ages and levels and to non-members for $35 a class. If you go with a Crunch member, the cost is $16.
“I think LaBlast is terrific. I didn’t feel intimidated because of my age, because of my dance ability,” Cantone said.
Others felt intimidated when they first heard about the program.
“I thought there would be advanced dancers or people more familiar with the class,” said first-time LaBlast participant Mindy Munoz, 30.
Munoz is now hooked.”I loved it. I think I’m coming back next week,” she said.
LaBlast is offered at three Crunch locations in NY.
