One in Five Americans Have Hearing Loss

One out of five Americans have hearing loss great enough to impact daily interaction, according to research published by the Archives of Internal Medicine.

The Archives analyzed information from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, which examined hearing in men and women of various ethnic backgrounds.

The analysis discovered that hearing difficulties double for every decade of life.

It also found that women and blacks had less hearing issues than men, Hispanics and whites, which could be a sign that estrogen and melanin have healthy benefits for ears.
