Free Shape Up NYC Program Helps Woman Lose 60 Pounds

The Daily News today profiles a Harlem woman who lost 60 pounds -- not with a paid trainer or a nutritionist, but with the free Shape Up NYC program offered by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

Patty Patillo, 50, who weighed 310 pounds six months ago, has been losing weight after she started taking a two-hour aerobic class every week at Harlem's Pelham Fritz Recreation Center six months ago, according to the Daily News.

It's part of the Shape Up NYC program, which works to battle obesity by offering free fitness classes in rec centers across all five boroughs.
