First Lady Discusses Childhood Obesity in DC

First lady Michelle Obama encouraged cities to get involved in her campaign to combat childhood obesity during a conference in Washington.

Obama addressed the National League of Cities conference on Tuesday to promote her "Let's Move!" physical fitness campaign. She told participants that adding physical fitness time in schools and investing in grocery stores are actions they can take to promote healthy kids. She also asked them to join more than 500 communities that have signed up for "Let's Move Cities and Towns."

Since launching her initiative in 2010, Obama has spoken before school groups, food makers and others, urging them to build more bike paths and playgrounds and serve healthier school lunches.
