After a snowy, sloppy Wednesday, a new round of heavier precipitation dumped hail, thunder, lightning, flurries and rain across the area overnight. More rain and sleet dropped in the city, while the Northwest suburbs saw more snow.
Snow overnight north and west could accumulate 3 to 6 inches or more in some higher elevations. Expect only a few lingering flurries or sprinkles in parts of the area Thursday morning as the storm exits out the Atlantic with a few breaks of sun through the clouds this afternoon.
The spring snow had many hoping this would be the last of the season.
In West Caldwell, N.J., Konnor Chevrolet employee Rafael Vivas got the job of clearing off cars for the sales department. "Almost done," he said. "Maybe one more, right?"
Highs only reached about 38 degrees in the city on Wednesday and will climb only slightly Thursday, to an expected 42 degrees. Expect more sunshine for Friday and Saturday, but it will still be unseasonably cold.
The forecast stays dry through Sunday morning, but another storm passing south of the area on Sunday could bring some wet snow to parts of the tri-state in the afternoon and evening, mainly across central and southern New Jersey. It stays dry and chilly into early next week.
