Two accidents on the eastbound Cross Bronx Expressway caused delays of up to two hours on the George Washington Bridge Wednesday, contributing to the latest in a series of frustrating commutes for drivers headed into the city.
Commuters heading into New York over the GWB should plan for delays of two hours on the upper level and at least 90 minutes on the lower level, Total Traffic said, adding the delays were among the worst on the span in some time.
A tanker truck and another truck got into an accident at Exit 2B/Webster Avenue on the Cross Bronx Expresway eastbound and traffic was backed up all the way past the New Jersey GWB tolls. NJ Transit bus service to New York was experiencing delays as a result, the agency said.
Emergency crews were on the scene and only the shoulder of the eastbound Cross Bronx Expressway was getting through just after 6 a.m. The accident was eventually cleared but traffic was still backed up.
There was also an accident near Jerome Avenue involving a car and a truck.
There were also significant delays at the Lincoln Tunnel, where traffic was backed up to an hour at 7 a.m.
