Looking for the expensive or outrageous this Christmas? It can be found in the annual Neiman Marcus Christmas Book, including a new sleigh for Santa -- a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.
The 84th edition of Neiman Marcus' famously extravagant Christmas Book features everything from a $4,500 Tory Burch-designed tricycle to a glass pool floor worth $1.5 million.
The annual reveal of the luxury retailer is always one of our favorite pre-holiday moments, and this year NM has topped itself with a catalogue of fantasy gift items -- fantasy in the sense that they're (let's face it) more gimmick than realistically gift-worthy. Take, for instance, the $248,000 commemorative charm bracelet or the 2011 Chevy Camaro fully loaded for a cool $75,000.
Execs point out that for the second year in a row, due to the rough economy, half the items are priced less than $250, 63 are $100 or less -- which actually seems to make the pleasure of perusing the over-the-top trinkets even guiltier, because that category includes a pair of $100 bedazzled tweezers. But it's not all totally ridiculous: While a nearly-$10K, three-day art tour of the Marfa, TX seems a bit over-the-top, we're definitely pining for the Dylan's Candy Bar Gingerbread Playhouse. It's only $15,000, and we've been really, really good this year.
As long as you take these over-the-top trinkets with a grain of salt -- we are, after all, talking about tequila parties, ukeleles and a luxury houseboat (amenities include a Nintendo Wii!) -- you can enjoy the Book and resign yourself to your own real holiday bounty of a Starbucks gift card and a sweater set.
