Now Open: Lululemon Is Far Too Zen to Worry about the Current Economy

That Lululemon store we predicted back in August opened without much fanfare on Broadway in Soho this past Friday. The shop, which sells women's athletic gear, joins two other local outposts, one on East 66th Street and one near Lincoln Center. One might not expect the current economic climate to be too hospitable to high-priced yoga pants, but Lululemon is actually thriving, thanks to its success in an underserved market. (Few other brands sell gym clothes for women only.) There's plans for a Union Square store, and the new C.E.O. sounds positively rosy about the future. "Even the Great Depression only lasted a certain number of years!" she told Portfolio.
