Josie Moran Wants to Give You a Makeover

Plus JCPenney’s opening-day festivities, and denim purveyor Self Edge lands in NYC

FACE VALUE: Growing up in a hippie Nor-Cal household gave model Josie Maran an appreciation for come-as-you-are beauty mixed with respect for nature. She combines the two in her eco-friendly, low-maintenance cosmetics collection, which she’ll be showing off with free makeovers at Sephora from 9AM-3PM. Sephora, 1500 Broadway near 43rd Street; 212- 944-6789.

PENNEY LOVER: Whatever larger philosophical doubts you may have about JCPenney plunking itself down in the middle of Manhattan, you can’t deny they’re not doing things halfway: The 153,000-square-foot emporium at Manhattan Mall even has a 1,500-square-foot standalone Sephora. For its grand opening today, Penney throws itself a party in nearby Greeley Square (Broadway between 32nd and 33rd Streets), with fashion shows and free swag galore. 9:30-6PM.JCPenney, 100 West 33rd Street at Sixth Avenue; 212-295-6120.

JUST OPENED: Everything at the new NYC outpost of S.F.-based Self Edge has a rarefied feel: the jeanery sells a small selection of $300ish Japanese indigo denim sprung from vintage looms, is the only U.S. stocker of cult labels Ande Whall and Joe McCoy's, and will hem or repair your purchase with – what else? – antique machines. Self Edge, 157 Orchard Street near Rivington Street; 212-388-0079.
