Daily Gossip: Missoni to Design H&M Collection

The hordes may be lining up outside the grand unveiling of Matthew Williamson's collection for H&M—which hits stores today—but the rumor mill is already turning about another famous-for-colors-and-prints designer taking a turn on the discount retailer train: Missoni.

It started with an article in The Telegraph in which Angela Missoni claims to want to "kill off the catwalk" and "modernise fashion." In so doing, she revealed that she would very much like to do a collaboration with H&M in order to reach a younger market. "I would like to do something with H&M because I think it is a very powerful way to reach younger girls now."

Well, we certainly wouldn't mind that one bit, especially since Missoni's current collection is full of skyrocketing price tags that seem, frankly, unrealistic to the young set right now—running counter to the brand's widespread popularity. And indeed, word seems to be spreading fast: Sources as varied as Grazia and Nitrolicious have already picked up this story and are running with it, so design directors at H&M, take note! Ms. Missoni has already announced plans to expand the brand's second (less expensive) line, M Missoni, into accessories and denim in the coming months ...
