Spanish fast fashion chain Mango is still figuring out the whole designer collaborations thing. Last year, the company debuted a collection of designer Osman Yousefzada's black dresses to little buzz; they did virtually no press for the collaboration in the US.
They didn't make the same mistake with Adam Lippes' line, however, which press was invited to preview at the Gramercy Park Hotel in late February. (Photos of the line had already leaked to the internet.)
Now the clothing is in stores, and though many items appear promising on the hanger, that's where they've stayed—on the hanger.
We blame the pricing. That long, floaty striped dress at right? It's $260. The long trench is $220, a short jacket is $110, the cuffed trousers are $120, and a tank top is $50. Keep in mind that everything we picked up was made in China. For consumers weaned on $60 Alexander Wang for Uniqlo dresses and $20 Rogan for Target tops, those numbers might be a bit hard to swallow.
