Ian Schrager, Look Away: 40 Bond Pitched to Commoners

We were riding in a taxi this weekend when the TV touchscreen thingy suddenly asked us if we wanted "to peek a prime condo in a building designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects." Um, duh? What we found surprised us: an ad for a $6.9 million 2BR, 2.5BA apartment at the one, the only, 40 Bond. Either rumors of the Gilded Age's demise have been greatly exaggerated, or this is an ingenious attempt to reach foreign buyers in town for some shopping. The apartment, #9B, was bought for $5.35 million a year ago. Or, in taxi fare, roughly 107 trips around the world (weekday, off-peak).
