Atlantic Yards Finally Makes Our Brains Explode

What the f*ck is going on at Atlantic Yards? Here's some of the latest developments in a plot line that's starting to have more twists and turns than the Pacific Coast Highway:

1) Bruce Ratner says that famed landscape architect Laurie Olin isn't off the job, but that he's just kind of on a sabbatical. This could be because most of his work is in "Phase II," which might stand the same chance of being built as an Ice Castle in, you know, the hot place where bad people may end up. The Ratner statement says: "Laurie Olin has been involved from the beginning of the design process and he will be involved in the end." Mr. Olin said differently. [TRE]

2) "Financial experts say the financial crisis and closing credit market present new problems for the arena. They say it will be hard to attract investors to the $950 million arena." The story ran everywhere. [AP/amNY]

3) Norman Oder, who probably understands the project better than Bruce Ratner, tries to figure out the current situation. He writes, "Sure, it's a fantasy that FCR would build the project at the timing and scale as announced. But, as I've written, the project--at least the arena--is very much in play."
