What to Try at Jacques Torres Ice Cream

…when it opens for business this Saturday in DUMBO. Because you should really start planning now.

Jacques "Mr. Chocolate" Torres knows how to work a crowd: He's spent the better part of May whipping the populace into a frenzy over the impending debut of his Brooklyn ice cream shop. (Case in point, when he started scooping frozen treats last week at his Hudson Street store, things got a little nuts -- even Grub Street was hyperventilating.)

So you can safely expect all hell to break loose this weekend, when Jacques Torres Ice Cream opens next door to his DUMBO chocolate shop on Saturday, and the full line of his bonbon-inspired glace flavors is finally available to our tastebuds.

So we're doing some pre-strike strategic planning: First, we'll sample the Wicked Chocolate ice cream, the frozen-treat version of his Mayan spice-infused Wicked Hot Chocolate. Up next, give us a scoop of the white chocolate, raspberry, and lime -- with those ingredients, we're hoping it imparts the decadent thrill of sipping a margarita before noon.

Then, this ice cream waffle. After this we'll do a lap around the block (for digestive purposes), and head back to try vanilla rum caramel, a delectable upping of the dulce de leche ante. Finish us off with some coconut sorbet -- perhaps in one of the made-to-order waffle cones, and studded with homemade toppings like peanut brittle -- and roll us home for a daylong dairy nap.
