Restaurant Week Pick: Quality Meats

Quality Meats

Quality Meats: A carnivore's paradise.

Summer Restaurant Week is on! Through July 31, out of the 250+ eateries participating, we bring you a crib sheet to our favorites.

Quality Meats
57 West 58th Street near Sixth Avenue; 212-371-7777; http://qualitymeatsnyc.com

Why: It’s a serious steakhouse in every way, starting with the respected NYC butchers who deliver the extraordinary meat (Milton Abeles and Strassburger Meats). But unlike your stuffier old-school steakhouses, Quality Meats draws back the curtain and (with help from design team AvroKO) sexes up the back-of-house trappings (industrial meat hooks as chandeliers, waitstaff in heavy butchers’ aprons, and so on).

What to order off the RW menu: Start with the spice-it-yourself steak tartare or the seared diver scallops with creamed corn. Next, go for either the hanger steak with brandied cherry sauce or the Brandt beef skirt steak frites (there’s a lobster salad and a grilled chicken too, among other options, but beef is their bailiwick). For dessert – which is ice cream, and only ice cream, all made in-house -- you could go highbrow (raspberry pomegranate sorbet) or lowbrow (orange creamsicle). We say go low. (See the full menu here.)

Tip: It’ll mean going off-menu, but you should pay a visit to Quality Meats’ charcuterie bar, the only one of its kind in the city.

During Restaurant Week, lunch at participating establishments is $24.07, dinner $35.00. Reserve early.
