Thursday night, as part of the NYC Film Food Festival, director David Sigal premieres his documentary Florent: Queen of the Meat Market, in which he profiles the restaurateur, talks to his extended family of loyal patrons—including the likes of Julianne Moore, Christo and Isaac Mizrahi--and generally pays tribute to the institution that was the beating heart of the neighborhood for 23 years. Sigal had started the film before the restaurant's fate was sealed, and continued shooting clear on through the bistro's final hours and minutes in June 2008.
Best part? For one night only, Morellet will whip up a selection of original menu items from Restaurant Florent. Be still our hearts.
