Eating Restaurant Week: August

August

Hearty Mediterranean fare rules at wee August.

Summer Restaurant Week is on. Through July 31, out of the 250+ eateries participating, we bring you a crib sheet to our favorites.

August
359 Bleecker Street near Charles Street; 212-929-8727; augustny.com
(Note: August runs Restaurant Week through July 30 only.)

Why: We’ve loved Tony Liu’s August from the beginning. It has a wood-fired oven, it has a garden, and it has a neighborhood vibe that says more Barcelona back-alley than Bleecker Street. All that, and hearty, rustic fare that’s Mediterranean-plus (sometimes, the plus means “Alsatian,” as with the regular menu's unstoppable bacon-onion tart).

What to order off the RW menu: Kick it off with crispy ham croquetas and red-pepper aioli, then go for the Spanish mackerel charred in the oven (with fennel, grapefruit, and saffron salsa) or a roasted chicken with greens, kohlrabi, and spiced prune jus. Whipped ricotta with cherries and pinenut brittle does you right for dessert. (See the full menu – which is dinner only, by the way -- here.)

During Restaurant Week, lunch at participating establishments is $24.07, dinner $35.00. Reserve early.
