“Cursed” Bklyn Eatery Has New Tenant, Shuffleboard

It opened last night, but how long will Cabana Bar last?

The plum space at the corner of President St. and 5th Ave. is one of those restaurant locales that gets a new tenant every six or so months. The last tenant, Lookout Hill, was all about smoked meat by the 1/4 lb. (two words: pork belly) with delish sides like corn pudding and bacon collards. Also, there was an extensive bourbon menu, which, even if you don't drink the stuff, should make you smile. Before that, it was a homey joint called Biscuits & BBQ -- the food was fairly mediocre, but the live music in the back room could be pretty swell, and you could get cans of Pork Slap for $4. (Anyone remember what it was before that?)

Seems the joint has split the space into two separate ones, and Cabana Bar debuted in the rear last night. Brownstoner reports menu items like "Peruvian anticuchos skewers, spicy chile de arbol popcorn and oyster empanadas" -- okay, you have our attention. Fresh margaritas are always a good time, and Brownstoner commenter "rob" says the space "smells lemoney [sic]." But shuffleboard? And limbo contests?
