Brace Yourself: Lobster Pound Comes to Red Hook

The Red Hook Lobster Pound will be a little piece of Maine on NY harbor

This is big news, people. BIG. We'd call it claws for celebration if that was how we rolled, which it isn't. Up until now, if you wanted lobster in Red Hook, you settled for a takeout mayo'd roll from Fairway chomped down by the water taxi landing. But here comes news that hubby-wife duo Susan Povich (daughter of Maury, FYI) and Ralph Gorham are turning a storefront at 284 Van Brunt Street into the Red Hook Lobster Pound. With lobster tanks. Best part: they’ll be driving to Maine every weekend to buy the tasty little bugs directly off a Down East fishing boat.

In authentic lobster pound fashion, the establishment won’t be a full-on restaurant, but it will be possible to have your purchase steamed to order. Brownstoner has the goods on the joint, tentatively slated for an April 24th debut.
