Beloved H&H Bagel Store Closing

A bagel store that has been a New York City institution since 1972 will soon shuts its doors.

The H&H Bagels store on the Upper West Side has been featured on TV shows such as "Seinfeld'' and "Friends.''

But The Wall Street Journal reported that store's awning that advertises bagels "like no other in the world'' was stripped off Tuesday.

An H&H employee who answered the phone Wednesday said the store would close for good on Monday.

The other H&H location on West 46th Street, where the bagels are baked, will remain open.

H&H owner Helmer Toro faced state tax charges in 2009. He pleaded guilty to grand larceny and was sentence to spend 50 weekends in jail and pay more than $500,000 in restitution.
