8/7: Waterside Lobster Bake

Plus, raise a glass at the wine-drenched White Party, and experience the crazypants genius of the Asphalt Orchestra

CLAWS FOR CELEBRATION: Gowanus-side artspace the Bklyn Yard is throwing that most summery of parties: An outdoor lobster bake. $22 gets you a feed of whole Maine lobster, corn on the cob, coleslaw or potato salad and butter for miles (plus a cracker to do the dirty work). Chow down to live DJs as the sun sets; squint, and the fetid canal nearby could be a sweet little Kennebunkport cove. 6PM, get tickets here.

TUBA OR NOT TUBA: Old circus oom-pah-pah meets the music of Bjork, Frank Zappa and more with the Asphalt Orchestra, a 12-person marching-band ensemble thingamajig perhaps best described by New York magazine, who called them “Sousa on crack.” They’ll start in Josie Robertson Plaza around 7PM and then rove, so you kinda have to find them by ear. (You can catch them all weekend in different spots; for more info, head here.)

COLOR CODED: This White Party doesn’t quite have the VIP grandeur of the P-Diddy namesake, but at least it won’t require you to beg or steal an invite to the Hamptons. Winemaker Georges DuBoeuf hosts a white-wine swillathon at Hell’s Kitchen’s High Bar. Wear all-white and you’ll even get a glass of Macon-Villages on the maison. 6-8PM.
