7/20: Rufus Wainwright, Dinner in the Field…

…and Vendela Vida reads from The Lovers

ALL IN THE FAMILY: Famously warring father-son pair Rufus Wainwright and Loudon Wainwright III play a benefit bill at Celebrate Brooklyn!—with Loudon opening for Rufus. (Wonder how dad feels about that.) Expect plenty of folk love from Sr. and melodrama from Jr. at the Prospect Park Bandshell. 7PM.

FARMVILLE: Get a full dose of small-town farm quaintness right here in NYC at the Queens County Farm Museum. They’ve tapped author/supper-club maven Tamara Reynolds as guest chef, and her Dinner in the Field (literally) features a full menu of comfort foods (from fried chicken to berry upside-down cake with minted whipped cream) cooked from the farm’s own bounty. Eat it all outside, between barns, under the sky. 6PM.

HAUNTING: A woman struggled to redefine herself as a wdow when she travels to Turkey to buy a house where she honeymooned with her husband in Vendela Vida’s critically-acclaimed The Lovers. Vida samples from the compulsively readable tale at McNally-Jackson Books, joined by Vacation author Deb Olin Unferth. 8PM.
