6/3: Pier 1 Opening Bash, Gayle King Talks…

INSPIRE: Two luminaries join forces to talk about how we can find the time and motivation to be exemplary, world-bettering citizens in the middle of hyper-demanding lives. O Magazine editor-at-large Gayle King is joined by Jonathan Tisch, author of “Citizen You: Doing Your Part to Change the World” at the 92nd Street Y; Tisch will sign his book following their discussion. 8PM.

GREENER: Brooklyn Bridge Park celebrates the opening of Pier 1 at the foot of Old Fulton Street, an extension of the existing green space and totally our new favorite waterfront picnic spot. At Sunset Swing, wash down eats provided by Food in Motion with drinks from the Brooklyn Brewery and Heights Chateau wines, and maybe shoe off a dance move or two. The evening benefits the Park Conservancy’s upcoming events. 6PM.

HISTORY, PLATED: Jane Ziegelman, author of “Foie Gras: A Passion” and head of the soon-to-exist Culinary Center at the Tenement Museum, comes to the Tribeca Barnes & Noble to discuss “97 Orchard: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement,” her gripping historical account of the LES immigrant experience through the foods they ate. 7PM.
