GREAT DEBATE: In this corner, Frank “Born Round” Bruni, ex-Times dining critic and carnivore extraordinaire. In the other, Jonathan Safran Foer, the award-winning novelist who puzzlingly took a break from fiction to write “Eating Animals”, the just-out treatise in favor of vegetarianism. They’ll parry and thrust, sign books, and mingle at the ensuing reception in-between bites of meat-free amuse-bouches – so you already have a pretty good idea what the agenda is here. JCC, 7:30PM.

SPIN: The first Sunday of each month, Park Slope’s Barbès presents a reading by one of the minds behind the musical musings in the 33 1/3 book series on seminal LPs. Tonight, Joe Harvard takes on the Velvet Underground's "Velvet Underground and Nico" in a special multimedia presentation. 7PM.

NORTHERN STAR: The lush electro-orchestral sweeps and the lazy trip-hop underlay would be enough to deserve permanent rotation status on your iPod -- and that's before Oslo-born Kate Havnevik even starts to sing, with a Kate Bush-meets-Bjork vocal vibe. Hear it all at Rockwood Music Hall tonight at 8PM.
