11/16: The Moth Ball, Barneys Holiday Window Unveiling, Pulp Twofer

STORY CORPS: The Moth, that wonderful performance society dedicated to the art of storytelling, throws its annual Moth Ball fundraiser at Capitale. Jonathan Ames and Mike Birbiglia (ace story-spinners both) host the event, which will culminate with the Moth Storytelling Award being presented to wonderful literary jack-of-all-trades Calvin Trillin. 6:30PM.

EATMAS: In this gastro-obsessed era, it was only a matter of time before the Barneys holiday window display was entirely focused on food. For this year’s theme, Have a Foodie Holiday, Simon Doonan fêtes 70 food luminaries (Bastianich! Oliver! Child!) in his 2010 Madison Avenue spread, which will be unveiled by Food and Wine editor Dana Corwin, Food Network prez Brooke Johnson and special guests (from the food world and beyond). 6PM.

PULP: Light Industry curates a double feature from ballsy “grindhouse auteur” Stephanie Rothman, whose films lured in 1970s moviegoers with pulpy sex and violence before serving up a radical political agenda. (Re)discover Rothman with The Student Nurses (1970)—which starts out exactly as you might expect something with that porny of a title might—before tackling issues like abortion and euthanasia. Meanwhile, the women-in-prison story Terminal Island (1973) quickly turns into one of gritty rebellion. Anthology Film Archives, 7 and 9PM.
