SMORGASBORD: Amanda Hesser (The Essential New York Times Cookbook) and Melissa Clark (In The Kitchen With A Good Appetite) will be at Chelsea Market for a joint book launch your tastebuds would kick you for missing. On deck will be 20 of the city’s best chefs—including Porchetta’s Sara Jenkins, Blue Hill’s Dan Barber, Fatty Crab’s Zak Pelaccio and Braeburn’s Brian Bistrong—preparing bites based on their favorite New York Times recipe. Wash it all down with beer from Sixpoint and egg creams from Russ & Daughters. Tickets and more here. 7PM.

ANIMAL FARM: Affable and totally twisted writer-humorist David Sedaris wraps his two-night stint uptown (waaaaaay uptown—at the Apollo, in fact) reading from his latest bit of how-does-he-do-that satire, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary. 8PM.

MONASTIC FANTASTIC: 17 Shaolin monks dance in Sutra at Lincoln Center in a piece by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui with visuals by Anthony Gormley, beginning a three-night run at the Rose Theater. Two words, one request: Shaolin kickline! 7:30PM.
