Last night at The Fletcher Sinclair mansion, Jimmy Choo celebrated the unveiling of its much anticipated capsule collection created in collaboration with contemporary artist Rob Pruitt. To help the brand celebrate the whimsical collection that references Pruitt’s art influences, the glitterati and art goers came out to toast the artsy collection.
Playful linings and hand-finished soles (think dégradé leather linings patterned with repeating angel and devil pandas) stay true to the aesthetic Pruitt has been known for since he hit the New York art scene in the late 1980s. Pruitt is known as much for his shock-and-awe tactics (in 1998 he presented "Cocaine Buffet," a minimalist line of cocaine that stretched 16 feet) as he is for his tribute to Andy Warhol (he created "The Andy Monument" that rested in Union Square until this past September).
On deck was actresses Krysten Ritter and Nichole Galicia, Phillip Bloch, Robert Verdi, Hilary Rhoda, Melissa George and others from the fashion and art worlds.
The collection features 19 styles of shoes, bags and accessories made from unique materials developed exclusively for the collaboration by the brand. It’s set to debut in November in Jimmy Choo boutiques and online.
“We worked conceptually with Rob and it was so fun and so easy,” said Simon Holloway, Creative Director (with Sandra Choi) of Jimmy Choo.
“He sort of wanted it to be like wearing a piece of New Year’s Eve on your foot—that’s something that everybody can relate to,” Holloway added.
