Victorian Flatbush Opera Soirees

Pinkies up! An intimate live opera series held in salons of historic Victorian homes lets you party like it's 1899.

Ever dreamed of living in the last century, when the culturally inclined would congregate in richly-appointed salons, sipping sherry and listening to some soprano or tenor singing arias a few feet away, by the piano?

That's pretty much exactly what'll go down at the Elixer 2009 Soiree Season: Opera With A Twist, a roving series of private concerts alighting in a handful of notable Victorian homes in Brooklyn's Ditmas Park neighborhood. Your $45 ticket (or $160 for a four-performance "season pass") includes wine and hors d'oeuvres, the privilege of peeking at architecture featured in the Times and New York Magazine, and the goosebump-inducing experience of hearing opera sung in a very, very intimate setting. (Plus, each soiree will benefit a different charity, like Music That Heals or Project Main Street.) First up, May 31st's performance will highlight Opera at the Oscars -- for more information on that event and to find out how to purchase tickets, head to the Ditmas Park Blog.
