Tonight: The Pretenders, Cat Power, Juliette Lewis @ SummerStage

A motley crew of performers take to Rumsey Playfield for a triple bill you won’t see anywhere else

One is a grande dame of the 1980s with serious punk-rock cred (and some of the best hair in music). One is known for whispery, introspective songs and a pathological fear of performing them live. And one sucked on Robert De Niro’s thumb in “Cape Fear” before turning her attention to a music career focused on garage punk and war paint.

It’s safe to say we’ve seen lineups that made more sense than this Chryssie Hynde, Cat Power, and Juliette Lewis (who ditched her Licks and is now working with a band called the New Romantiques), but then again, we’re pretty jazzed about getting to see three of our favorite artists -- not to mention three of the more creative and badass ladies on the music scene -- on a single stage. if that’s not reason enough, the SummerStage Gala raises funds for City Parks Foundation’s free year-round arts performances in parks citywide – a good thing, for sure.
