The Poetry Brothel: Putting the verse back in perverse

The Poetry Brothel - a roving event that stages faux turn-of-the-century houses of ill repute, complete with lots of tassels, dim red lighting and literary ladies (and gents) of the night - holds its Masquerade tomorrow night at the Zipper Factory. Lest you roll your eyes at any poem that doesn't start with "There once was a man from Nantucket," you should know the Poetry Brothel's mission is to teach you to appreciate the lost art of verse by creating a whole new way to appreciate poetry: They send you into a private booth (not many of those left in New York, kids) with one of their poetry "whores," who'll read you a composition one-on-one, putting the iambic back into your pentameter (at the end of which, we assume, you'll run right out and pick up the complete works of Shelley).

Beyond the curtains, there'll be live music, tarot readings and a generally debauched good time to be had. Sat. 25, 9PM, The Zipper Factory, 336 W. 37th St. [8th/9th Aves.], tickets: $15 at the door, thepoetrybrothel.com
