Non-CMJ Music Fest in Williamsburg

A week-long alternative to indie-fest CMJ sprouted its darling face this afternoon when ToddP announced (via his site) a daily line-up of free, all-ages shows taking place outdoors in the heart of Williamsburg. The majority of CMJ shows are corporately-sponsored and sold out, so ToddP's shows offer a great alternative for the average music fan looking to catch a good show.

And that's the thing! It's not like this mini-fest within a fest was just thrown together. They've actually managed to book some of the biggest bands playing this year's CMJ, and again, totally free! Here's the official announcement, via Todd P:

ALL THIS WEEK! Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday afternoons in CONTINENTAL ARMY PLAZA in Wburg - a 100% FREE & all ages miniature festival of great bands playing outside in the park, w/ no corporate sponsorships & no "vip" lists & no bullshit - just for the love of music! (and yes, there's a rainout location!)

The venue for these parties is spectacular - CONTINENTAL ARMY PLAZA - located at the north pedestrian entrance of the Williamsburg Bridge in the heart of Wburg. The space is a turn of the century public plaza with a huge statue of George Washington on a horse. It's been famous for years as a prime skate spot in North Brooklyn.

PLS REMEMBER: no open containers in NYC Parks! brown bagging is not enough!

And yes, you've been forewarned. Booze in NYC public parks  and stoops are mostly bad ideas, except of course you're sitting with Bloomberg watching Shakespeare in the Park, but that's another story.
