An event pays tribute to late Muppeteer Richard Hunt.

Bronx-born Muppeteer Richard Hunt, who died of AIDS-related complications in 1992, created some of the most memorable members of the Muppet empire; without him, there’d be no Elmo, Janice, Miss Piggy or Scooter -- or Beaker! Think of a world without Beaker! But his contribution to the iconic fuzzball famiglia tends to be overshadowed by that of figurehead Jim Henson. Tonight, author Jessica Max Stein presents “The Rainbow Connection: Gay Muppeteer Richard Hunt,” which promises to be both a tribute to Hunt’s unique contribution to the Muppetverse, and a look at the “nerdy, gleeful, and gay-as-in-homosexual subtext of the Muppets.” We always knew there was more to Statler and Waldorf than met the eye.
