    Martha Plimpton sings?

Martha Plimpton has acted in seemingly every indie endeavor on the books, from countless off-Broadway plays to films like “200 Cigarettes” and “I Shot Andy Warhol”, she was nominated for a Tony for her turn in the Broadway musical revival “Pal Joey”, and she’s part of that roster of thesps who’ve done notable tours of duty on “Law & Order”, “ER” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” And now, apparently, she sings?

That question mark isn’t ours, by the way – it’s right there in Lincoln Center’s press release for the American Songbook 2010 program, showcasing a variety of performers paying to tribute to the diverse musical styles of popular American song from January 13 to March 6. (The marquee is crowded, by the way, including Rufus Wainwright, Marianne Faithfull, Chita Rivera, Nellie McKay and many more).

From the 39-year-old actress’ show, titled “Martha Plimpton Sings?”, expect plenty of chestnuts from the first half of the last century, sung (nay, growled) in a Sally Bowlesian manner that brings to mind Barbara Stanwyck stashing a flask of gin in her garter -– or, as the Times put it, “a been-there, frowzy sensuality.”

Hear her talk about the upcoming show in a Lincoln Center "Vocal Chords" podcast (hosted by Suzanne Vega) here.
