Happy World Cocktail Week! Today: The Margarita

Nope, we're not talking about the kind that comes oozing out of a Slushie machine.

It's World Cocktail Week! Setting aside the obvious retort ("Isn't every week world cocktail week?"), we raise a glass to the classics, spotlighting one great drink a day.

The Cocktail: The Margarita

What's in It: Tequila of your choice, lime, triple sec -- beyond that, the possibilities are endless.

The Lore: More than one story claims this drink's origins, but regardless of the specifics, it's a safe bet the first margarita hangover happened in Mexico somewhere between 1938 and 1948.

Where to Drink It in NYC: Hit Toloache in Hell's Kitchen, where the house margarita is made with fresh-squeezed lime and muddled hibiscus flowers and blueberries. At Dos Caminos -- uptown or down -- the prickly pear concoction will almost make you forget the frattish crowds (and everything else about this chainlet). We love Rosa Mexicano's pomegranate marg, and at new tequila temple Mayahuel (from the Death & Co folks), they just might pour the best straight margarita in town.
